NSW: 300 tractors plough field in world record attempt

Almost 300 tractors have ploughed across a paddock at Yass in NSW in a bid to break
a world record.

Drivers, aged six to 85, took to their tractors yesterday to smash the previous record
of 106 tractors ploughing together, set in South Africa.

Organiser VIC MUSCAT says the tractors moved in five lines, with each line as long
as three football fields.

Mr MUSCAT, who restores tractors, has spent six months planning the record attempt
with fellow tractor-restorers from across the country.

Although still awaiting confirmation from The Guinness Book of Records, Mr MUSCAT says
299 of the 301 tractors have been recognised for the record.

He says one tractor ran out of fuel and another wouldn't start, however, he hopes the
one that ran out of fuel might have moved a bit to allow it to be counted.

Mr MUSCAT says one of the tractors used was the oldest petrol-driven tractor in the world.
