What Australian newspapers say Wednesday, August 21=2

The Canberra Times says Question Time in the House of Representatives has become afarce in which very little information is put on the public record.

Its editorial says the questions are overwhelmingly either Dorothy Dixers from thegovernment side or rhetorical flourishes from the opposition benches which don't seemto require actual answers.

"If television (rather than tactical poverty) is the cause of the change in the Houseof Representatives, then it is not working - for the opposition or for the parliament.

"Perhaps the jabs are rather more likely to become 10-second grabs on the nightly news, but that is a poor substitute for serious exposure of the government's weaknesses."
